Our Clubs Online Forum
  1. What is the Colborne Computer Club?
The CCC is a group of personal computer (PC) users who are members of one of the Oakville Senior's Recreation Centres. The club helps its members use and enjoy their computers.

  2. What does the club do?

    CCC Monthly Meetings:
The CCC meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors. Each meeting has a presentation about some use of a PC. There is an informal Q and A from 7:00 to 7:30 at most meetings when the members discuss and help each other with problems that they may be having using their computers. There is a $5 fee for each meeting which includes coffee and cookies.

    CCC Thursday Support Group:
There is a member support group meeting on selected Thursdays between 1 and 3 p.m. at the Colborne Centre. This meeting discusses and resolves problems that members may have and explores new uses for PCs. There is a $2.00 fee for each meeting.

CCC Special Interest Groups (SIG): The CCC will assist in the forming of a computer related SIG such as Genealogy or Financial.

    CCC Forum:
The club maintains a discussion and information forum linked to this web site where members can discuss their problems and get help at any time or exchange information about using their computers.

  3. Who can join the CCC?
The CCC is open to any current member of the Oakville senior's recreation centres. Although all the club activities take place at the Colborne Centre, you can join at any centre. Membership in the seniors centres is limited those 50 or older. The annual membership fee varies from $0 to $25 depending on your age. Membership gives you access to the activities at all the centres.

    The centres are:
Sir John Colborne, 1565 Old Lakeshore Road. (Corner of Lakeshore Road and Third Line.)
    Kerr Street, 263 Kerr Street.
    River Oaks, 2400 Sixth Line.
    Iroquois Ridge, 1051 Glenashton Road.

  4. How do I join the CCC?
Come to one of the regular Tuesday evening meetings at the Sir John Colborne Centre. Paying the fee for the meeting makes you a CCC member for the next six months. A member’s name is dropped form the membership list if absent for more than six (6) months.

  5. What do CCC members use their computers for?

    Email:
This is the single most popular use. Email lets you send text messages, like a letter, to other people who are also connected to the Internet. Unlike a letter, the messages arrive instantaneously and there is no charge for each message. The most important factor for many members is that it is the only way their grandchildren will communicate with them regularly.

Surfing the Internet: The Internet contains a vast amount of information and opinion. Anything you want to know is available on the Internet. All you have to do is determine whether you are seeing hard information or opinion.

Other: Computers are the most flexible tools ever invented. The only real restrictions on making use of a computer are your own imagination and your willingness to explore and learn new things. One of the club's main activities is making members aware of all the things they can do with their computer.

  6. Who runs the CCC?
The members elect an eight person executive board at the CCC's annual general meeting. The executive board meets monthly to plan club events and make decisions about the club. Your input and suggestions are welcome. You can send e-mail to the executive through the CCC's web site.

  7. Where does the CCC's money go?
From each meeting, the club pays the Colborne centre a fee per person for the use of the facilities. The regular monthly meetings use some of the money to provide coffee and cookies. The rest of the fees go toward providing the equipment, software and services that the club uses for its sessions.

  8. I have never used a computer before. How can I know if I can handle one?
You can test drive the Computer Access Program (CAP) computer at the Colborne Centre. CAP is a government program paid for with your tax dollars that makes computers and access to the Internet available to the public. CCC members are available for assistance if requested.

  9. How much does a personal computer cost?
You can get a new basic PC starting around $700. However, many of our members inherited their first computer from children or grandchildren who wanted a better computer for themselves. You should also budget $10 to $30 a month for access to the Internet depending upon how much you use it and the access speed that you want.
